METER Environment
Made in Fukushima Book

Since you’re connected with METER, we wanted to share a project we’ve been working on. We’re excited because it speaks to our mission—to help people solve meaningful problems in areas such as air and water quality, crop management, and food safety.

Many of you remember the Fukushima nuclear disaster of 2011. You may have watched the news and seen people evacuating villages they called "home." Radioactive contamination made the traditionally rich soil completely unusable. It was our mission to get involved. We worked with the University of Tokyo and local rice farmers to develop a sustainable decontamination method to restore rice farming in the region. The world remained skeptical.

To tell the story about the science, the people, and the socio-economic impact, METER produced Made in Fukushima, a book based in scientific fact. The book is crafted from decontaminated rice straw, and filled with pictures, data, and details about the initiative.

Made In Fukushima was shortlisted at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
